Welcome to Applewood!

As the first post of this blog, I thought you ought to get to know me a bit.

My name is Aubrey Dettmer, and I've been married for nearly 6 wonderful years to my husband, Aaron. We have 2 goats, 2 dogs & 4 barncats, & I love them all while Aaron loves only the dogs & me. I am the oldest of 8 children, which is A LOT of fun! My siblings have become some of my best friends over the years. I love coffee (no cream or sugar, please!), bread (lots of it!), Germany (I take German lessons), drawing, piano, old buildings, trains...well, the list could go on. 

I graduated from IPFW with an Associates Degree in Business and a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, but I've found that photography is where my true passion lies. I've always loved art, & my grandpa was an art teacher, so I've been surrounded with it since I was a little tyke.

I began my photography career a little over a year ago when I took my sister's senior portraits and realized that it was not only a lot of fun...but the pictures turned out pretty well, too! So I ran with it. I began taking photographs of my family, friends, anyone who would let me! I can't believe how this hobby has turned into something so much more seemingly overnight, and I love every minute of it!

I've found that my greatest joy when photographing is the expression on someone's face when they see the photos. When I catch the personality of their child, or a funny moment at a wedding, or the love that two people have for each other....that's the real reason I do what I do. I don't want to be just another photographer who makes your kid cry relentlessly as we're all trapped in a studio. I want to see them having FUN! I like to incorporate your interests and see the real personality shining through. And who doesn't like a good wedding? Cake, laughter, dancing, magical moments...you've got to love that!
