"Dream the impossible, then go out and make it happen. I walked on the moon. What can't you do?" Gene Cernan, Astronaut and last human to have walked on the moon Okay guys. I know it's been a while, but I am officially about 1 1/2 months behind on my 366 project, which is crazy because I was weeks ahead just a few months ago. But I've been super busy at home, at work, getting ready for mini sessions, and taking more photos of my kids than I know what to do with. Also, our youngest is very affectionate and gets bad separation anxiety, so she's definitely a momma's girl. Our oldest could scream bloody murder right outside the nursery door, and the baby wouldn't wake up. But as soon as she hears me click the mouse on my computer, she's up and wants held STAT. So it's been difficult at best to edit, let alone keep up with this project and actually prep the book that they're going into. So these photos below are actually from May and June, but I love them, so I'm including them. The main purpose of this project for me is not to improve my photography skills, although shooting daily definitely helps with that, and I can always use more improving, but I want to document my children's milestones, our day to day, their mannerisms and favorite things. That's why I'm putting together a book each year, and this one is going to be massive, which is part of the reason I've fallen behind. Last year, I literally used one photo a day and many photos never made the cut for the book. When I photograph something my children are doing, I often have enough photos for an entire session. I go wild. So this year I've decided to have a main photo as my official 366 image, and then a collage of the rest of the "session." This has been very time consuming, but I think I'll be glad I did it in the end. Although I'm pretty worried about what a price tag for a book that large will be! So anyhow, I'm still here, and I've got some actual photo sessions to share soon, too. Hope you're all getting in the swing of back to school...can't believe it's here already! 183.366 You have an incredible love of space and astronauts and rocket ships right now. You found your Daddy's space magazine and nearly lost your mind in excitement. Since then you've colored countless pictures of rocket ships, performed countdowns ending in "BLAST OFF!" and zoomed around the room many times and Daddy even bought you a toy rocket ship with two plastic astronauts which you call "Little Kids." "Here you go, Little Kids," you say as you place them in the rocket ship. 184.366 You both generally wake up at the same time, even though you can't hear each other from opposite sides of the house. I grab Baby Jo and carry her up to your room, where we play and act silly and get accustomed to waking up. It's one of my favorite times of the day. You love to hold hands with each other, or "Little Paws," as you still sometimes call them. 185.366 Mommy and Baby Jo are not big fans of the summer heat, so we often go outside in the evenings after Daddy comes home. These perfect summer evenings have been magical. We lie on our backs and look at clouds. Every one of them is a dinosaur-shaped cloud to you. Daddy helped you with your basketball skills, and we played on the swing set for hours. We found little tree frogs, but you're not a fan of surprises, so when they hop, you jump too. And we played among the peonies that used to be your great great grandfather's. These are the evenings I hope never to forget. 186.366 The 3rd of our Mommy-Daughter dates, we went to Tim Hortons for doughnuts. You should have seen your eyes, as big as those doughnuts, when you looked into the display case. I let you pick your own, which of course was chocolate, and we laughed when you got chocolate stuck between your two front teeth. Afterward, we went to the library for story time, but you discovered this amazing playroom there and refused to go to story time (a first!). We read some books, and then off to Panda Express, which was packed and you threw a colossal fit so we had to leave. But overall, it was a perfect day with my Sunshine Girl. 188.366 Canal Days. I grew up on one of the streets where they have Canal Days each year, so for me, it's great to run into people I know from my childhood or high school. For you, it was a captivating myriad of sights and sounds. But your favorite part was riding the ponies. Like Daddy, like Daughter. Here you are staring at the ferris wheel in amazement. 189.366 Someday, when you're a big girl and off at school, I'm going to miss these easy mornings. On my days off work, we take things slow, sleeping in and making a big breakfast. Sometimes we play tea party before breakfast. I let you mix the pancake batter. "Mix-a mix-a mix-a!" you cry. "Like Daniel Tiger!" I took some batter with my finger and swipe it on your nose playfully once, so now you think that's a requirement for pancake-making. While eating the batter you're supposed to be mixing, you take your finger and wipe it on your nose. We both think it's pretty funny. And then I think to myself that I'll miss the day when you're too big to sit on the counter, mixing pancake batter like Daniel Tiger and eating half of it with your finger.

"How much good inside a day? Depends how good you live 'em." - Shel Silverstein, "How Many, How Much" 179.366 Our first zoo visit of the year, and Baby Jo's first visit ever. Your favorite animals of all, the tigers, came up to the glass, and in all my years of going to the zoo, I've never seen them up close until then. You rode the carousel, we made friends with some little birds in the Rainforest, you tried to pull a kangaroo's tail, and Baby Jo slept through it all. Overall, one of the best zoo visits ever. (June 8) “I will not play at tug o’ war. I’d rather play at hug o’ war, Where everyone hugs Instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles And rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, And everyone grins, And everyone cuddles, And everyone wins.” - Where the Sidewalk Ends 171.366 You love your exersaucer for all of ten minutes at a time. It's interesting that you are most intrigued by the octopus, which always captured your Big Sister's attention too. Speaking of Big Sister, she's tried getting in the exersaucer a few times too, sometimes with you in it! (May 27, 2016) |
