This month's theme in Erin Hensley's 365 Group on Facebook is {diffused light}. At first, I felt pretty intimidated. I mean, because of this group, I can't help being drawn to the contrast of light against the darkness. But then I remembered, hey, this is the only light I photographed in before this group. While it's taking some adjusting, it feels good to try something completely different and get back in the groove of my old style, and quite honestly, the style I use most often with my clients. Isn't it funny how the style I use at home can be so different from what I use in my business? I've tried to meld the two, but it seems people like the style of photos I take of Little Miss, but they'd rather have the traditional style for their own photos. Totally understandable, because I'd love those of my family, too! But I'd love to do get into doing in-home, documentary-style photography for clients as well. So far, we've had a mixture of cool, cloudy days and unbearably muggy, sunny days, so I've really only utilized clouds and trees on grey days, or the sheer curtains in my daughter's nursery on the sunny days. I'm hoping to get more creative by the end of the month with my methods of diffusing light! 157.365 Mommy has morning duty on taking care of the goats and barn cats, and Daddy takes care of them in the evening. On my days off, I push you in your car out to the barn, both of us still in our jammies. You love to be outside, but those goats just make you so happy, and you do enjoy a wild ride in the car.

Although I'm primarily known as a family/children's photographer, I really love photographing seniors. Unfortunately, I rarely get the opportunity, so this family has been good to me, because I've now had the chance to photograph two of their kids' senior photos. (Okay, so I feel old because I'm calling a high school senior a kid...sorry, Zane. I'm showing my age here.) Zane was awesome to work with. Sometimes guys can have a particularly difficult time knowing how to pose or which expression to make, but I had zero issues getting Zane to get just the right shot. Usually with guys, I alternate serious, tough looks with smiles, and for Zane we had those looks, but we added another...."one for mom." Because you know moms love to see their kids smile with their teeth showing! So we'd say "A serious face, a smile, and one for the mom." Soon, Zane would just make those 3 expressions in a row without me even asking. Good luck in college, Zane! Hope you get to do all the great things you want to do! Thanks for being awesome!
And P.S. to all you high schoolers out there....I'm booking for 2016 Senior Photos, so drop me a line on the contact page, or send me an email! My availability schedule is on here, too. I am so grateful for another month to share my love for my little angel and her beauty with other people. Below are recognitions from last May 2015. Thank you to the communities who help artists develop and learn through hubs and communities, for the support of fellow photographers, family and friends, and for the support of all Applewood Photography fans. And of course my beautiful daughter who lets me practice the art of photography daily through her silly antics and curiosity. She is oh so patient with me. ♥ Featured in SHOT!
